Are there any
free dating sites left?
Virtually of the
online dating sites
you have seen on your virtual travels will
have billed themselves as being a free
dating service and to some extent this is
true. You will happily click the link and
start to able through the free picture
profiles in the hope of finding someone
special. When you find them you will click
on their picture to look at their profile
and post a private message to them.
What you get for
nothing.
You will
probably only see one picture and some of
the description about their likes and
dislikes. Under the photo that is available
there will be a message saying that only
members can see the rest of the photos. By
the private message option a similar message
will display. So, having found the girl of
your dreams you start to signup but at the
bottom of the form there’s a link to set up
a credit card transaction for $4.98 a month.
But, the site description said you could
browse members for free, didn’t it? It
probably did, yes, and you have browsed the
members for free but now that you want to do
more than look at the photo and name you
have to pay the site a little money for the
extra work and bandwidth they need. No more
“free”

I know that
you’re probably muttering under your breath
that it’s tantamount to prostitution but
these services are really quite invaluable
and many users wouldn’t post their messages
if the increased security they offer wasn’t
available. The use of the private messaging
system alone and the need to pay to use this
service dissuades the type of people who
visit these boards in order to send abusive
emails. And, yes there are people who would
do that given the chance.
Security.
By paying the
site they are acting as everyone’s guardian
to some extent. It’s true that they probably
don’t check the messages as they go through
the system but you wouldn’t really want them
to read your intimate messages. By forcing a
paying subscription on members it does
ensure that email list builders and abusive
emailers tend to stay away from these sites
altogether. Why pay to abuse someone when
you can find people giving you the
opportunity to do it for free?
Are there any free
dating sites left?
That said, there
are some useful free dating sites still
available on the Internet and if you take
the trouble to find them you could take
advantage for quite some time. New sites or
sites with dwindling numbers may at least
offer a trial period where you don’t have to
pay because they are confident that you’ll
enjoy their site and their services so much
that you will gladly pay for the
subscription. Plus, many people forget to
cancel their subscription.
