Build your
online relationship.
If you’ve posted
successful online personals or met potential
dates through one or more of the numerous
online dating
sites
then you have probably
already struck up a good basic relationship
with at least one person. Knowing how to
progress this relationship can be difficult
and, in particular, how to use the different
methods of contact available to you. By
learning how to effectively use emails,
instant messenger and other options you
should be able to continue your
relationships and hopefully take them to the
next level.
Quick message.
Some sites offer
you the chance to send a preset nudge, or a
wink. This can also be called an icebreaker
on another site. Doing this sends a pre
typed short message to a person’s inbox just
to let them know you like what you see. It
also has a link to your profile and
encourages them to look; should they like
what they see they’ll return the nudge or
better still send you a message. There’s no
technique to using these except to say if
you don’t get an answer don’t keep sending.
You’ll alienate someone who might just have
not had the chance to respond yet.
On site
communication.
Many
online dating sites
have private
messaging as a key form of communication.
Any messages you send to people through
these methods will normally be flagged up as
a new message and an email sent to that
person to let them know they have new mail
waiting for them. Using the private message
function is very much the same as emailing a
person and you should use it to develop your
online relationship. Keep the messages short
and interesting and always end with a
question. By keeping your text short you are
encouraging questions and by ending with a
question you are encouraging a response. If
you get a similar response you’re doing well

Email.
Short emails are
the order of the day. Use a couple of lines
as an introduction or to answer a question
and then end with a question about the other
person. You come across as being mysterious
by not giving too much away and you are
encouraging an open dialogue with regular
emails.
Instant
messenger.
Instant
messenger is a superb tool to help you build
an online relationship. It is real time and
because it’s online you will be much more
confident than you would in person. Use this
to your advantage but always be sure to send
messages in a conversational tone and be
sure that your grammar is as accurate as
possible.
Phone.
That’s right, you might
actually have to pick up a phone and ring
someone. Occasionally when things are going
really well you might find that the person
on the other end of your Internet connection
wants to talk to the real you instead of
always
